Plays and Picks

New icons and power-ups are shaping a smoother, more dynamic gameplay experience.

We’ve been working on two of the primary features in our game: plays and picks.

Part of the user experience is defining how players find and interact with all of the available picks—from moneylines to individual player props. With so many options, a major focus has been making everything clean, organized, and easy to navigate.

A big goal has also been redefining how picks work by introducing power-ups to add more depth and strategy to what is typically a luck-based system.

To support this, we’ve created tiered power-ups that grow stronger over time, with categories like passing, rushing, receiving, and team-based boosts giving players flexibility in how they build their strategy.

To match the identity of the game, we’re calling these power-ups “plays,” reinforcing the idea that users are making strategic decisions like a coach.

We’re excited to see this all come together as the game becomes more polished. Stay tuned for more.

Game Design - Point System

Designing a robust point system that rewards a variety of playstyles for head-to-head situations is crucial.

When you engage in 1v1 situations, you want the freedom to use whatever playstyle you prefer without a "meta" providing enemies with a significant advantage. As part of our game's development, we simulated millions of randmoized situations and tweaked our point system to meet three main goals:

1. Discourage playstyles that favor extremely probable/improbable odds exclusively

2. Provide all playstyles with a "fair shake" at winning

3. Tighten the spread between winners and losers without diminishing success

Through our simulations, we found strengths and weaknesses in our original design and found solutions we weren't expecting to create a more polished system. Whether you want to play it safe or risk it all, we can confidently say you'll be at an equal playing field to opponents with different playstyles. We also found a rewarding way to "tighten the spread" as naturally compounding success creates exponentially larger results. This mechanism also spurred a unique idea for classifying success that players can use for bragging rights as they aim for new high scores.

We've officially started production.

We’re excited to share our first major milestone.

Over the past few months, OverPick has existed as an idea, a set of rules, a lot of whiteboard sketches, and many late-night conversations about sports, strategy, and competition. Today, it becomes something more tangible. We have officially begun production on the OverPick app.

Our goal is simple: create a head-to-head sports strategy experience where your understanding of matchups, usage, and game flow actually matters. Instead of just watching a game and reacting to what happens, OverPick lets you make decisions beforehand and compete directly against another person based on how well you read the sport.
